Today, I went to school. It was raining heavily this morning.

Before morning tea, we had English class with Ms. Michelle. I learned about Australian animals such as koalas, kangaroos, and quokkas.

During the class, we played some games. One of them was a game where you stick a piece of paper with the name of an Australian animal on your forehead and guess which animal it is. The person who has the paper on their forehead can ask three questions. I tried it, but it was difficult.

I also learned about Australia Zoo, which we are going to visit tomorrow. I’m really looking forward to going there and seeing a lot of animals.

After morning tea, we had farm class.




I cleaned the stable and checked the horses’ weight. There were over ten horses in the stable.






Our farm teacher asked everyone to step on the horse scale, and we tried to make it reach 1,000 kg. We didn’t reach 1,000 kg, but it was fun.




It was my first time taking care of horses, so it was a good experience.

It was my host brother’s birthday!!

When I was setting my hair early in the morning, I could hear him and a woman I didn't know laughing in the laundry room. She was their big sister. She made a surprise visit to their home. I didn’t know what was happening in the laundry room though.

She gave her little brothers and sister some lovely presents! The host sister looked so happy.

At school, we learned about Australian animals for tomorrow’s zoo visit. We all played an animal recognition game.


In the afternoon, I took two classes with my buddy. At the short break between the 6th and 7th periods, I drew a picture of sushi. Some girls in the classroom said they liked it!

After school, my host family, my host mother’s sister, my roommate, and I played blackjack and UNO with chips (like betting).

I gave him a short letter with Japanese paper.

“Happy Birthday! お誕生日おめでとう” …

 Last night, I took off from Narita for Brisbane. To be honest, I was a bit anxious when I first decided to go to Australia. But as I got closer, my anxiety turned into anticipation, and by the time I boarded the plane, I was filled with excitement. I was surprised to find a beef bowl served on the plane. When I arrived in Brisbane, an Australian tour guide was waiting for me, which made me feel a little relieved. I realized that I had actually come to Australia. After visiting the observatory overlooking Brisbane and the University of Queensland, we had some free time. I had an acai bowl and gelato there. I was surprised that the prices were higher than in Japan. I also went to a convenience store and bought some snacks recommended by the clerk. They were very tasty. Then I met my host family.  Today I interviewed my classmates about yesterday during the English lesson in the morning. They all seemed to enjoy yesterday and said there was nothing they didn't like. We also listened to the clues, and we did the guesswork about which building on the distributed map it was.  After that, at morning tea time, I finally got to meet my buddy, who had been absent until now. I was surprised that his friends were the ones we gave the presentation to, and I had a fun time chatting with them.  In the second half of my English lesson, we had a spelling test of the words from the reading about the Eumundi Markets that we did the day before yesterday. I learned a way of giving directions and did a writing task. Today, I went to school in the morning and attended an ESL class.  The theme of the lesson was Japanese and Australian food.  We also talked in English about what we did over the weekend and played a game where we each said something we bought while shopping and continued in turn.  I could tell that everyone had an enjoyable weekend, and I felt that we spoke up more than last week and were making progress. During the lesson, I also tried speaking with the teacher.  Sometimes my pronunciation did not come across well, but when I was understood, I was very happy and it motivated me to try harder. We also decorated cookies with icing and made koala faces using marshmallows, chocolate, and gummies.  Everyone’s mouths turned blue from the icing, which was very funny, and the cookies were delicious too.
