Sunday August 10th by H.A. and S.I.
Last night, I took off from Narita for Brisbane. To be honest, I was a bit anxious when I first decided to go to Australia. But as I got closer, my anxiety turned into anticipation, and by the time I boarded the plane, I was filled with excitement. I was surprised to find a beef bowl served on the plane.
When I arrived in Brisbane, an Australian tour guide was waiting for me, which made me feel a little relieved. I realized that I had actually come to Australia.
After visiting the observatory overlooking Brisbane and the University of Queensland, we had some free time. I had an acai bowl and gelato there. I was surprised that the prices were higher than in Japan. I also went to a convenience store and bought some snacks recommended by the clerk. They were very tasty. Then I met my host family. I was a little nervous, but they seemed kind and made me feel at ease.
After that, I went to the beach with my host brother. It was cold because it was winter, but I was happy to see the sunset.
I may have some difficulties over the next two weeks, but I will do my best without forgetting how grateful I am.

I arrived at Brisbane Airport after a 9-hour flight. I felt nervous at first, but I was also excited. To start, I went with the local coordinator by bus to Mount Coot-tha, where I enjoyed the view of Brisbane.
After that, the coordinator showed us around one of Brisbane’s famous universities.
Around lunchtime, we had free time to explore Brisbane.
After about an hour and a half by bus, we arrived at Nambour College, where we waited for our homestay families to pick us up. Once I met my host family, they showed me around their home, and I had a great time playing Monopoly with their children.
For dinner, we all ate spaghetti with meat sauce that the mother had prepared for us outdoors. During the meal, we asked them about the school and the house rules.
When I gave them the souvenir from Japan, they were really happy to have it, and that made me feel very happy too. They were very kind, telling me to “make yourself at home” and “never mind if you need anything.”
Although today was the first day, I want to help out where I can and participate in family events as much as possible for the remaining 13 days so that I can live as a part of the family.
