Tuesday August 19th by R.A. and A.K.
This morning, my host father made toast and gave me some yogurt.
It was a fresh experience for me because the breakfast was different from what I usually have in Japan.
In my EFL class, we learned about healthy eating.
After that, I tried toast with Vegemite. It actually tasted better than when I first had it at my host family’s house.
I also ate a lamington. It was a flavor I had never experienced before, and I really enjoyed it.
After coming back home, I cooked okonomiyaki with my host brother.
I wanted my host family to experience Japanese food, so I brought some ingredients to share with them.
It was a little difficult to make because I had to slice pork belly thinly, which is not a usual step in Japan.
But I was happy that I could use the word “stir-fry,” which I learned in my EFL class today.
The moment my host family enjoyed the food was the happiest moment for me in Australia so far.
I was also glad when my host sister called me a “good chef.”
Tomorrow, I will have an agricultural experience.
I’m really looking forward to it because it’s something I could never do in my usual school life.
Thank you.
Today, I took an ESL class, and then I went to the NCC kindergarten and played with the children.
At the kindergarten, I played with the children using magnetic toys, played soccer, and played in the sand.
Also, I brought origami to the kindergarten. It was very popular, and the number of origami pieces became few, so I was very happy.
After lunch, I took PE and English classes with my buddy. The PE class was a lecture, and we learned about human relationships.
I was surprised at first because I thought it would be a class to move our bodies, but it was very interesting.
In English class, we read a passage in the textbook and answered the questions.
We also borrowed the textbook and tried to answer other questions. It was very useful.
After dinner, I played many games with my host family. Among the games I played with them, I liked the drawing game.
It is a game where you draw a picture of a topic and your teammate guesses it. There were many words I didn’t know, so it was also good for learning.
Also, I found that Australia has UNO too, but the pronunciation is not "uno" — it is "yuno." I was very surprised.
Tomorrow, I will have a chance to teach Japanese to students in the Japanese class. I’m really looking forward to it.
I have to speak a lot of English, so I think it will be very good practice.
I don’t have much time left in this study abroad program, but I want to learn as much as I can before I go back to Japan.
A.K.
